I was sixteen years old and singing at the Plaza Ballroom in Oldhill. There was a guy with quite an arrogant air to himself, very cocky, standing watching me. He said, “You’re pretty good, but you’d be a lot better if you had a drummer like me.” I thought, “Nobody says that sort of thing to ME. Don’t they know who I might one day end up being?” That was the first moment that [John Bonham and I] ever communicated at all.
